IN MARCH A RETROSPECTIVE OF THE 9. ISFF PÍSEK 2009

Písek, 10. 3. 2010/ On Friday, March 19th 2010, the Echoes of the 9th International Student Film Festival in Písek 2009 will be realized at 8 o'clock p.m. at the Prague theatre Aero. The festival is organized by the Independent Film College in cooperation with the Film Academy of Miroslav Ondříček in Písek. Viewers will have the opportunity to see a selection of winning films from last year's festival. The extraordinary event of the night will be the christening of the upcoming, jubilee signature clip for the tenth annual 10. ISFF Písek 2010 directed by a student of FAMO in Písek, currently studying the field of directing, Jan Vejnar. The moderator of the night will be a student of the Film Academy of Miroslav Ondříček in Písek, actor and future director, Vojtěch Kotek.

Films that were chosen and awarded by the international jury of the 9. ISFF Písek 2009 will be shown during a ninety minute movie block. The jury that was present during this last year are: Mexican camera operator Antonio Riestra, writer Galina Poppová, Polish camera operator Andrzej J. Jaroszewicz, American professor Daniel Boyd and the winner of the Grand Prix of the 8. ISFF Písek 2008 Yasmine Novak from Israel. The block will be kicked off with the Polish clip Hands (Dlonie, 2008) which had won the Special Jury Award. It's a poetic insight into two worlds: the deaf and the hearing. Second in turn is the Estonian film Obsession (Haaratus, 2008) which had won the Award for Best Narrative Film. It's a story about two people who realize, during a random conversation, that even an unflattering attribute such as obsession can lead to happiness. The Indian film Rebello (Rebello, 2009) which had taken home the Award of Vladana Terčová - the founder of the film school and festival - is about an eight year old boy who tries to escape from poverty and loneliness. Unfortunately, there is no escape from the unhappy and merciless world that he lives in. The international festival's jury bestowed special recognition for directing to the British clip Play (2008) . It's a narration about a group of twelve year old teenagers who find out personally what happens when they start taking a dare seriously. The next clip named Where the Mind is Without Fear (2009) not only won the Award for best documentary of ISFF '09 but also acquired third place in the Winton Train Film Contest. The sole Czech representative during "the Echoes" will be the three minute long animated clip Leave ideals (Opustíme vzory, 2008) . It's a humorous "guide" on how to fight against a corrupted system, role models and authorities. The festival presentation will be brought to a close with the winning Korean clip My Dear Childlike Cinderella (2009) which won the Grand Prix- the Award of Václav Krška. It's a tender and charming short story, reflecting on the relationship between the aging Choi and his life companion.

The International Student Film Festival entered its first year in 1997. Up until recently it had functioned as a biennale. In the last three years it has become a routine, yearly, autumn, cultural Písek event. The festival is gradually attracting more and more viewers and during the years many foreign and domestic hosts have visited it - director Ivan Passer, Russian animator and artist Ivan Maximov, French director and scriptwriter Francois Gérard, Argentinean director Emiliano Romero, Czech director Jiří Menzel, music composer Varhan Orchestrovič Bauer, camera operator and director F. A. Brabec and the patron of the Academy, camera operator Miroslav Ondříček as well as much more. Besides offering a wide variety of film projections, there is also a rich accompanying program prepared for festival visitors and hosts - concerts, art exhibitions, workshops, gabfests and theatre performances.

The 10. anniversary of ISFF Písek will take place on September 30th until October 2nd. Students from both film schools in Písek are already working on preparations for the festival. This year the organizational team is led by Lenka Kotlánová and Vítek Pecka. The festival's mission is to arrange a gathering of young filmmakers and to introduce the work of domestic and foreign film schools to the public. This year the international jury will be led by a regular host of the festival the art director of the Karlovy Vary IFF, Eva Zaoralová.
